a story of painting... there are many things i love, but i adore food and travel. many important events in my life involve food... birthday cakes at the family home, 4th of July barbeques in the park. the memories from a trip or a meal are some of my fondest. sometimes i walk down the street and i'll inhale the aroma of something that instantly puts me right back to a place i've been... a whiff of a plane tree can put me in mind of Paris on a mild autumn day when the rain gently falls on an awning of a sidewalk café; i sit, sip my coffee and enjoy a truffle omelet. the challenge for me is to capture the mood, the spirit, the essence of that moment. watercolor is a medium that is so immediate; once the brush hits the paper, the mark is down and permanent. the challenge of the medium for me is to keep the work fresh and clean. watercolor helps capture the spontaneity of a moment. watercolor helps echo the immediacy of a memory as well.
